BRAZIL, PART 10C: TIJUCA FOREST FAUNA

Despite our short visit, I was thrilled to have some time to find a few animal subjects to photograph in Tijuca National Forest – unlike last week’s targets, these rarely sat still. I love the challenge to not only capture them in a photo but to also capture a bit of personality. As you view them below you can decide whether or not I succeeded.

BIRDS –  I was given a good sense of the plethora of birds  I MIGHT see by pictorial charts that were set up at the front gate:

In addition I was delighted to learn that Vitor’s brother was the illustrator:

What a talented family!

Here are some of my captures:

BANANAQUIT

FRIGATE

VULTURE

CORMORANT

MASKED WATER TYRANT

MONKEYS – Perhaps the most expressive fauna I cam upon were these little guys:

MARMOSET

CAPUCHIN

SQUIRREL MONKEY

OTHERS

SLOTHS. – This sloth has wandered into  an area where his safety was a concern, so the park staff gently removed him.  I was able to take a few photos with my zoom so as not to disturb the sloth:

LIZARD

No one in our group was able to identify this fish swimming in the lily pond, but I think it is a type of catfish::

I can’t wait to see what flora and fauna Vitor photographed for his book which has just been released.last week and is flying off the shelves in Brazil as well as receiving many kudos! I will post details on how to order from the US as soon as Victor sets up the system, most likely with Paypal. Once I get my copy I will also provide some sneak peeks of his phenomenal  work.
