BRAZIL, PART 16: CASA DO CHEF – CULINARY HISTORY, PLATED

I had no inking that  our final dinner in Brazil was going to actually be another journey – a six-course  delight taking us through the different parts of Brazil’s culinary history.  Adding to the theme, the restaurant, Casa do Chef, is in the middle of the rainforest and is a  stunning compound that includes the restaurant and the chef’s home with his family.  Here are a few pics of this exquisite setting:

Our host was the internationally acclaimed Chef Fabio Del Antonio, a spritely, energetic, multitalented adorable man:

After settling down with a refreshing caipirinha,

we sat entranced as Chef Fabio enfolded his  “Brazilian Food Tales,’ complete with Powerpoint presentation so that obsessed diners such as myself could take notes about the various ingredients and dishes being prepared: Starting with an overall view of Brazil:

Chef Fabio got quickly into the details of each course:

As each course was being plated, Chef Fabio provided entertaining ways of presenting the history:

This wearing of a gourd was not a joke, it was a method of hunting  in “camouflage:”

Each course was paired by delicious Brazilian wines:

This night was truly a feast for the senses – all of them, for an after dinner surprise we were treated to a very different performance by Chef Fabio:

A man of many talents, for sure – Carmen Miranda would be so proud!
