BRAZIL, PART 14B: BUENOS DIAS, CATARATAS DEL IGUAZU!

This post’s title is a bit misleading as my first impressive view of the Iguassu Falls took place in Argentina  (but the Spanish is appropriate).  Early in the morning we hopped into our small van for the short trip to the border:

The entry to Argentina was rather painless, after a bit of a wait while large tourist buses’ tourists were processed ahead of our small group.  Once thru the gates, we proceeded to a crowded but very well organized train station:

Though packed to the gills, the train ride was lovely, passing through the lush rainforest.  It was also a delight to watch the families, particularly the children all smiling ear to ear with excitement.  It was contagious.  Our stop was “Estacion Garganta” – I’ll tell you more about the name later in this post.  We then trekked along a walkway for 2 hours that zigged and zagged through the rainforest and the edges of the falls.  Here I separated from our group of five, as the visuals were too good to simply walk thru.  First emerging from the rainforest and finding a few animals who call the falls their home:

Think this is a chameleon, but it could be a lizard – it moved to quickly for me to get more than this photo.

Turtle copping some ray.

Local catfish.

Cormorant preening and drying his feathers/

Bits of falls began to be visible:

Then, at the end of the walkway was “Garganta del Diablo,”  It means “Devil‘s Throat.”  It needs its own post, next week – you’ll see why.
